bullet  General Notes:

Anderson is the surety on marrige bonds between Thomas McCormack & Nancy Durrett, 16 Aug. 1795 as well as the marrige bond between Suky McCormack & John Wheeler 14 Sep. 1809. Is he the father of Thomas & Suky

The following two deeds from Bedford County Virginia show Anderson to be the son of Micjah McCormack.

McCormack, Dennis males under 10 3 females 16/26 2 males 10/16 1 females 26/45 1 males over 45 1 Beverly Neises: We are interested in a proposal that Micajah's son, Anderson, was the progenitor of the Roan County, Tennessee, McCormacks. Anderson's wife was named Mary, and the 1810 census shows she was in the same age group as the widow Mary McCormack of Roane County, Tennesse. According tot he 1810 census of Bedford County, Anderson McCormakc's famly was a pefect match for the ages and gender of the Roane County McCormacks.

Anderson McCormack was the only son of Micajah McCormack not represented on the 1820 censu of Virginia. Anderson and Mary sold their land in Bedford County, recorded 1818, and they disappeared from the record books after the 1816 tax lists. The inference is strong that they left Bedford County, and the timing of their departure conincides precisely with the arrival of our McCormacks in Roane County, Tennessee. Since Clayton was married in Roane County, in eary March of 1820, it stand to reason he had been in the county for a least a year or two. Mahaly married the same year, and later records state she was a "stranger in the neighborhood" at the time of her marrige. We state with near certainty that the McCormacks arrived in Roane County, Tennessee, in about 1817-1819. If Anderson McComack was the husband and father of the Roane County McCormacks, he must have died shortly after arrival in Tennessee.

Update from Beverly Neises: This minute received those pages from "Breckinridge County Kentucky Records," Vol. 3 & 4, by Michael Lewis Cook, C. G. and Bettie Anne Cummings Cook, C.G., Cook Publications, 1984. The only entry for Anderson McCormick was as follows:

Volume 4, p. 273 p. 233, December 19, 1817, Anderson McCormick, to Harris Prior, for $200.00, 50 acres in Bedford County, Virginia on Nantes (?) Creek, as recorded in a deed in said county from McCormick's father unto him. Certified and recorded December 19, 1817.

This is the same information recorded in the Bedford County, Virginia, deed books. It seems Harris Prior resold the land a few weeks later and made a twenty dollar profit:

Volume 4, p. 274 p. 238, January 26, 1818, Harris Prior and Mahulda his wife, to Huston & Allen, for $220.00, 50 acres in Bedford County, Virginia, said land being deeded to Anderson McCormick by his father and by said Anderson McCormick to Harris Prior. Certified and recorded January 26, 1818.

***********************************

IT IS NOW CERTAIN THAT ANDERSON McCORMACK DID NOT PURCHASE LAND IN BRECKINRIDE COUNTY, KENTUCKY. He did not remain in Breckinridge County and was long gone before the 1820 Census. It seems he sold his land (back in Bedford County) to a man who never intended to take possession. In my mind Anderson was getting ready to move on, and he needed cash for the journey.

This was a real heart stopper for me, but it ends well. These records seem only to reinforce my original thinking. I still believe Anderson died sometime between 1818-1820, and I still believe that was his widow (MARY) and children in Roane County, Tennessee. They are the only McCormacks who fit the family of Anderson McCormack, on the 1810 census. In the absence of other unforeseen developments, I think we can close the books on this one.

Anderson married Mary. (Mary was born before 1780.)
