Mrs. Baily, a resident of Carter County for 80 years, was born July 1, 1863 in North Carolina, a daughter of George and Catherine Engles Taylor. She had been a member of the Methodist Church for 72 years. Surviving are two other daughters, Miss Martha Williams, Denton, and Mrs. Laura Rice, Arizona; two sons, Chester Williams, McDavid, Fla., and Ira Williams, Lexington, Ky.; three sisters, Mrs. M. B. Notes from my childhood memories: Ellen (Nellie) Taylor) Williams has a son named Ira. He is the only surviving grandchild of George & Catherine that I am aware of. His family was one of tragedy (mental illness, sucicide, etc.) The Williams family tragedies are what I recollect hearing about when I was a child. Ira's sister (much older, obvioulsy) was Mary who married Robert Baily and I don't think they had any children. When I was a kid I remember visiting Mary Baily (first cousin to my mother ) at Denton. Being a curious child, I peeked in at the window of a sparate dwelling where Mary's sister, Martha, was housed. Noone ever knew that I did this. She was naked and shaking. I probably had heard that they could no longer keep clothes on Martha. Mary hand carried meals to her. We attended her funeral at the Willard Christian Church a few years later

bullet  Noted events in her life were:

• Alt. Birth: Edna Walters Winkler intereview: Flatwoods, KY. Christine Williams interviw with Edna Walters Winkler:
According to Edna, “During the Civil War, Grandpa Taylor had to hide out because he didn't belong to the Crown and had not gotten his Citizenship papers.”
I had always been told: "He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg. My Grandmother Nelle Taylor Williams was born. 7-1-1863 and Grandmother Taylor did not know if her husband. was alive .
Citizen or not, according to her Aunt Nelle Williams's Family, Edna's Grandfather fought at the Battle of Gettysburg for the Confederate Army. They would apt to be more cognizant of these events because on July 1, 1863 while on the battlefield, Grandpa Taylor's daughter, Nelle (Ellen), was born. Consequently, it has been passed down through the generations that Grandmother Taylor, while giving birth to her daughter, Nelle, didn't know whether her husband was dead or alive. Whether he hid out or fought during the War, he survived and fathered two more daughters and four sons. Making a family of, at least, nine children.
